David Sobey

Introduced to the grocery business at an early age, David Sobey worked in many capacities, including as a store manager, in the family’s ever-expanding business. He took on increasingly senior leadership roles, including CEO of Sobeys from 1986 to 1995, and chairman until his retirement in 2001, when he was appointed chairman emeritus. Among his many accolades, he was awarded the Golden Pencil in 1991 and named to the Order of Canada in 1995.
